7 Unique Wedding Details

I know. I keep posting about weddings. It’s just that the wedding trends and traditions continue to evolve in such awesome ways. And the stunning techniques and ideas when it comes to documenting the big day through photography and film have never been better. So. Today I wanted to share a few unique details that may help you think outside of the box as you create your own fun and memorable wedding. It’s a pretty random list from my own wedding, others I’ve attended and StyleMePretty.com, but here goes.

1. Create a Who’s Who Guest Book. Back in 2005 when I married my husband, we optimistically invited all his/our friends and family from Sweden to the wedding. And boy did we get lucky. We had a proper Swedish invasion into my little Massachusetts hometown. About thirty or so Swedes, guys. In a town with no stop lights. So to make them feel as welcome as possible on their first trip, one of the things we created for the wedding reception were little guest bio books. They listed the name of each guest, their relationship to us and a funny little fact or our thoughts about them. They turned out to be a big hit and something fun for guests to thumb through as they sipped cocktails and munched on appetizers before the reception started. If you did this today, I’d probably suggest include pictures too. If you attempt it though, and would like to keep relationships solid, triple quadruple check that everyone in attendance is included in the book!!

2. Give Food Favors. This has been a trend for a while but worth mentioning. And I’m not talking mints. At my best friend’s wedding in Jamaica, they gave out bags of authentic jerk and allspice seasoning, chicken rub and jars of local honey. They were amazing, and we used up every morsel throughout the following month.

3. Add a Photo Booth. This is the modern version of  disposable cameras on the tables, and also not anything new in terms of wedding trends. But it’s a good idea because guests self-select to have photos taken of them, they do “the work,” it’s simple to set up and a lighthearted way to document your event.

4. Name Your Table. Instead of unattractive number signs provided by the function hall, create your own unique table labels. Make them personal and fun. For example, for our wedding we named each table a street or city where we had lived together. Luckily we had lived in a lot of different places during our first four years together!

5. Replace the Guest Book. There are a lot of creative ways to record who was there with you on your wedding day. Here are a few cute ones from Style Me Pretty:

6. Play. There’s usually some time between wedding and reception. It’s never bad to have something for guests to do for that time. Whether you have an indoor or outdoor reception, strategically place a few games to get people ready to have some fun. Think simple. Checkers. Tic Tac Toe. Ring toss. And stay away from Candy Crush.

7. Test Guests. Create a quiz about you and your fiance. Ask them where you met. Details about the proposal. What your guy’s favorite dinosaur is. Then distribute the quiz so that each table works as a team against other tables. It will give everyone some laughs and even the awkward tables will have something to chat about during dinner.
